RIEDU

YEP 2020-21

The 2020–2021 edition of the Young Editors Program (YEP) was a landmark year that gave rise to one of RIEDU’s most meaningful initiatives—The Marshmallow, a global, research-based children’s e-magazine. Developed by and for children aged 8–15, The Marshmallow emerged from a growing need to balance the rise of AI and digital intelligence with the nurturing of empathy, kindness, and human values.

Inspired by UN Sustainable Development Goal 4.7, and grounded in data from the Global Peace Index, our Young Editors worked together to explore how storytelling can become a tool for shaping a more inclusive, peaceful world. They didn’t just write stories—they shaped content that fosters social-emotional learning, inclusion, and compassion in young readers worldwide.

Through this program, children were empowered to act as Reviewers, Illustrators, Writers, and Editors, forming a truly inclusive editorial board. Children with diverse abilities and backgrounds contributed equally—proving that creativity knows no bounds. Each edition of The Marshmallow includes fables, quizzes, mascot stories, interviews, and more—all created or curated by the Young Editors themselves.

The Marshmallow became more than a publication—it became a movement, giving children a platform to express, connect, and lead with heart. And it all began with a group of young editors who believed their stories could change the world.
